Wisdom has built her house;
she has set up its seven pillars.
2 She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine;
she has also set her table.
3 She has sent out her servants, and she calls
from the highest point of the city,
4 “Let all who are simple come to my house!”
To those who have no sense she says,
5 “Come, eat my food
and drink the wine I have mixed.
6 Leave your simple ways and you will live;
walk in the way of insight.”
The dinner bell ringing, we all jump to our feet and run to the table ready to eat. With our months of staying at home, there have been only a few meals I have eaten outside the house. It was a nice experience to eat a meal inside a restaurant, which had folks sitting at tables appropriately spaced apart. How nice it would be to go to Wisdom’s house for a delicious meal, really any meal outside our homes we would welcome. Wisdom, personified as Lady Wisdom has built a house, prepared us a meal, and now is inviting us to come and eat. What do we need to do in order to partake of the meal? Simply leave our “simple ways” behind, our own foolish desires and self-direction. We must choose to leave foolishness and walk in the way of insight. I find it hard to believe anyone would turn down a delicious meal. We should have that same desire to partake of all the Wisdom God gives us, to follow God’s ways, to walk the path God has set before us. May we all enjoy the delicious meal of Wisdom God has prepared for us.
