Proverbs 13 – Prosperity is the Reward for the Righteous

21 – Misfortune pursues the sinner, but prosperity is the reward of the righteous.

In a perfect world, the good would be rewarded and the bad punished.  We don’t live in a perfect world, our world is broken and hurting.  Sometimes bad things happen to good people.  It can be hard to swallow, especially if we see “the sinners” finding prosperity, and we are left with misfortune.  This problem is not new.  Even Jesus told his followers, “The rain falls on the righteous, and the unrighteous.” (Matthew 5:45).  We need to be reminded that God is not the active force behind one’s prosperity or misfortune.  Our prosperity comes from our faithfulness to God and in the same manner one’s misfortune comes from their rejection of God.  The prosperity of the righteous is one’s relationship with God.  Our blessings come from being connected with a loving God, having our Creator lead us, guides, and care for us.  To live a Christian life is to live a blessed life.  May we thank God each day for the blessing we have in being a part of the Family.

Matt
