Proverbs 25 – “Please pass the Honey”

16 If you find honey, eat just enough—
too much of it, and you will vomit.
17 Seldom set foot in your neighbor’s house—
too much of you, and they will hate you.

These verses could have easily been written by, Miss Manners an author and newspaper columnist who has worked to expand the understanding of etiquette in our society.  They warn against good social relations gone bad.  Finding and stuffing our bellies with too much honey is compared with showing up too often at our neighbor’s door.  When my grandmother lived in a retirement center, she had a neighbor who would frequently visit after dinner.  My grandma was glad for the visit, but her neighbor would often stay too long.  So not to offend her neighbor, my grandma would pretend to fall asleep until the neighbor got the message it was time to end visit.  Too much of a good visit can make you tired.  It is possible to wear out one’s welcome.  Too much of a good thing can make you sick.
