Appalachian Christmas Outreach

Share a Gift of Love and the Gospel Message with a child in need this Christmas

We are excited to participate again this year in the Appalachian Christmas Outreach backpack ministry, which delivers backpacks to children in various underprivileged communities throughout Appalachia. As a twist for this year, and as an opportunity for church members (especially elderly or homebound members) to see youth, children, and other members while remaining safely socially-distanced, we are participating in the backpack ministry through a scavenger hunt! Please see the info below and let me know if interested. This would be a great opportunity to see church members, remain safe and socially-distanced, yet still participate in missions. ZBC families are invited to play their part in the ZBC Scavenger Hunt on Sunday, November 8th from 3:30-5:30 p.m.! Families will each receive at least one backpack to prepare for the Appalachian Backpack Ministry, which they will then proceed to pack. That said, there’s a catch: the materials will be located at various church members’ houses, so each family will have to follow a series of clues, leading to the location of the materials in various church members’ houses, in order to find the correct materials! There’s one more catch: each family will have to take a (socially-distanced) picture or complete a (sociallydistanced) task in order to get their clue to the next house. The goal is to find all the church member’s houses designated for them and make it back to the church with a complete backpack. We will gather at the church to begin at 3:30 p.m. and plan to finish by 5:00 p.m. If interested in taking part, please contact Carson or the office so that we can go ahead and assign your backpack. Come on out and join us!

Once they are collected, a children’s Bible and a scripture Christmas story will be added to each backpack. The NC state goal is 18,000 backpacks. Zion had a great outpouring of love last year, and the need is even greater this year.

The bags will go to the Shelby Mission Camp to be distributed further.
