Special Services

SPECIAL SERVICES-

Throughout the church year we gather for worship during specific church seasons. We prepare for the celebration of Christmas through the season of Advent. Here at Zion, we begin our Advent season with a special ‘Hanging of the Greens’ evening worship service for the entire family. ‘Advent’, which means ‘coming’ or ‘arrival’, is a season of waiting. We wait with great anticipation for the coming of Christ and celebrate with a special Christmas Eve service with music, scripture, and fellowship.

Our Ash Wednesday service marks the beginning of the Lenten season.  During this time before Easter, we reflect on the life of Jesus and on our own relationship with God.  On Palm Sunday our church choir leads us in worship with a wonderful program of music and song. During Holy Week, we gather for a time of fellowship, a Maundy Thursday service, Stations of the Cross on Friday, and a special Easter Sunday sunrise service followed by breakfast, Sunday School, and morning worship.

In May we gather for a time of worship and fellowship around the table during our church memorial service and covered dish luncheon. On Mother’s Day take time to celebrate all the women and mothers who are part of our church family. We also dedicate our babies to God and commit as a church family to help teach and raise them up into the faith. Our Father’s Day worship service also celebrates all the men and fathers who are part of our church family and on occasion have a men’s choir help lead us in worship. Other special worship services are an All Saints Day service where we honor those saints of our church who have passed on before us, an outdoor Brush Arbor Service, a Community Thanksgiving Service with other local churches, and an Ingathering service where we give back to God a portion of our blessing through a special offering for missions.
