Appalachian Christmas Outreach

2022 Appalachian Christmas Outreach
for Monthly Mission

Share a Gift of Love and the Gospel Message with a child in need this Christmas

We have an opportunity to help with this ministry again—The Appalachian Coalfields
Ministry! It is sponsored by the NC Baptists on Mission and seeks to meet the physical and spiritual
needs of people living in the Appalachian area.
If you would like to help, this is what is needed:
1. Decide if you would like to help a boy or a girl.
2. Decide on the age: 4-7, 8-10, 11-14, or 15-17.
3. Pick up a backpack provided by the church, located in the sanctuary.
4. Purchase and fill the backpack with:
A. Items of NEW warm clothing. Please try to provide a winter hat, a pair of gloves, and 2-3 pair
of winter socks, and maybe a scarf.
B. Include small pop-top canned food, for example: ravioli, tuna, beef stew, fruit, and vegetables (3
or 4 cans). No plastic containers, please.
C. At least one or two NEW, age-appropriate non-breakable toys (no toy weapons, please) for ex-
ample: small cars, balls, dolls, small stuffed animals, puzzles, jump ropes, sidewalk chalk, card
games, Legos, etc. For the oldest children (15-17) instead of a toy, buy things like flashlights,
small thermos, light blanket, earbuds, books, small tool kits, fishing gear, hunting, fishing or sports
magazines for boys. For girls, buy things like jewelry, hair accessories, skin care products, books,
earbuds, small travel-size hair dryer, etc.
D. Hygiene items, including full-sized containers of toothpaste, body wash, shampoo and deodorant,
as well as toothbrush, soap, washcloth, brush or comb. (Put items that may leak in a one gallon zip
lock bag.)
E. Fresh, wrapped candy (no chocolate please, as it may melt; and no peanut products because of
potential allergies)
F. Put a note on the outside of the bag stating if it’s for a boy or a girl and the age.
Zion’s collection date is by Sunday, November 6th. If you would prefer to make a financial
donation to this mission project, you can designate your donation to Community Missions.
Once the bags are collected, a children’s Bible and a scripture Christmas story will be added to each
backpack.

The bags will go to the Shelby Mission Camp to be distributed further.
